As the city explores the future of the city’s waterfront this week, a surprising player has emerged from obscurity to enter the discussions: the long-gone Cape Verdean population of Fox Point.

The Cape Verdean Subcommittee of the R.I. Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission is interested in keeping the Providence waterfront area open to the public. The committee supports the use of public land by future generations of Rhode Islanders and to ensure the preservation of the history and culture of the previously displaced Cape Verdean community in Fox Point.
