Those bigger-than-life leaders – like political titans Bruce Sundlun, John Chafee, and Claiborne Pell are not easy to replace. And, some ot our most talented individuals have moved out ot Rhode island and are now living and workIng elsewhere, pursuing their amazing careers. They are no longer connected to Rhode Island
What was refreshing was how many of Rhode Island’s greats are tied to our colleges and universities — a cornerstone to Rhode Island’s success. In 2023 Claire Andrade-Watkins was included at #22 in the list.
Daily Kos: Black Music Sunday: Celebrating Horace Silver and ‘Song For My Father’
Sunday, June 18, 2023
As Father’s Day approached this week, my thoughts turned to my dad. I kept hearing bits and pieces of one of my favorite jazz tunes in my head: “Song For My Father,” by pianist, composer, and arranger Horace Silver. I pulled it up to play from my music collection and looked online for cover versions. Only then was I reminded that Silver joined the ancestors on June 18, 2014, nine years to this day.
Join me today in a memorial tribute to Silver, and to his music.
